Transplant jaw made by 3D printer claimed as first

3D-printed jaw

A 3D printer-created lower jaw has been fitted to an 83-year-old woman's face in what doctors say is the first operation of its kind.
The patient involved had developed a chronic bone infection which led doctors to believe that regular reconstructive surgery would be risky due to the patients age. The implant was made of titanium powder, heated and fused together by a laser. Technicians believe that the success of the transplant paves the way for the use of more 3D printed patient specific parts.
Personally I think it is amasing how far technology has come, especially in the medical world. This operation took up a fifth of the time that regular reconstructive surgery would take, which I find astonoshing. Just think of the possibilities, building bespoke lower jaws to being able to print organs?
Take a look at the link and let me know what you think :)
